Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring comfort floating across all ICU and PCU units with a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • ICU/PCU Float role requiring comfort working in all ICU and PCU units
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 6:45pm-7:15am, with 4x12 schedules available by request
  • Assignments up to 26 weeks available by request
  • PCU average patient ratio is 5:1 and ICU average ratio is 2:1
  • Floating required based on staffing needs re-evaluated every 4 hours, with potential to float 2-3 times per shift
  • Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/Day)
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
  • Experience at a large Level I or Level II trauma facility required
  • EPIC charting system experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation and maintenance
  • Skilled in respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients
  • Ventilator management skills preferred
  • Experience with medication administration including continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Wound care experience with surgical wounds, drains, or wound vacs
  • Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition skills preferred
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE knowledge preferred
  • Experience with IV insulin protocol adherence
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Two professional references required for consideration

  • Position based at a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital and the flagship facility of a major clinic system
  • Facility is the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
  • Magnet-designated for nursing excellence
  • Affiliated with a medical school and features a dedicated children's hospital
  • Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Travel experience not required
  • All RTO and special scheduling requests must be submitted upfront prior to assignment start
  • Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility (based on driver's license address) are not accepted, with limited exceptions for inpatient RNs and RRT Neo/Peds staff at reduced eligibility or bill rate
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment at this facility are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
