Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU Float position requiring comfort working across all ICU and PCU units at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital.

Details

• Float position covering all ICU and PCU units within an acute care teaching hospital
• 703-bed flagship facility with the region's only Level I Trauma Center for Adult and Pediatrics
• Night shift schedule, 3x12s from 6:45p-7:15a
• PCU average ratio is 5:1 and ICU average ratio is 2:1
• Uses Epic for charting
• Floating required, with staffing needs re-evaluated every 4 hours and potential to float 2-3 times per shift
• Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
• Holiday coverage required, one holiday per 13-week contract (two holidays during winter holiday period)
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks

Requirements

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (CPI preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
• Experience at a large Level I or II trauma facility required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation/maintenance
• Respiratory support experience including BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients
• Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Wound care experience with surgical wounds, drains, or wound vacs
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• IV insulin protocol experience
• Previous charge experience preferred

• Deliver comprehensive critical and progressive care across ICU and PCU units, adapting to varying patient acuity and ratios
• Work within a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center affiliated with a medical school and featuring a dedicated children's hospital
• Facility is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travel experience is not required
• All requested time off must be submitted in advance
• Local candidates within defined radius criteria may be considered under specific eligibility terms
• Previous employees must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
