Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2 years of PICU experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care setting in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of a children's hospital
• 20-bed unit with an average daily census of about 15 patients
• ICU ratios of 1:1-2 and stepdown ratios of 1:3
• Patient population includes Congenital Heart Program, DKA, respiratory, neurosurgery, tracheostomy, ventilator, and G-tube cases, with possible adult patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips including sedation (Fentanyl, Versed, Precedex), vasoactive medications, and TPN/MIVF per physician orders
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Charge Nurse coverage depends on staffing, with a free House Supervisor always available
• Nurse aides support the unit, assisting with feeding, FSBS, equipment, and admissions prep
• In-house pediatrician, resident, and APP coverage available 24/7
• RT manages ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP equipment
• Telemetry is monitored off unit with strips read by tele staff
• 12-hour shifts rotating between 7a-7p and 7p-7a with self-scheduling
• Weekend requirement of 2 weekends per 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat/Sun considered weekend shifts)
• Holiday rotation required as needed, worked into the permanent staff holiday schedule
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required within children's services including L&D, NICU, and Acute Peds, with standard ratios expected

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS and PALS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
• BSN not required for this position
• Must be comfortable caring for adult patients if needed
• COVID vaccination required, with medical or religious exemption process available

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to critically ill pediatric patients, including titrating sedation and vasoactive drips per physician orders
• Collaborate with in-house physicians, residents, APPs, and RT staff for coordinated care
• Unit-specific orientation includes EPIC training, NSO, competency and equipment review with a clinical preceptor, and 3 shifts with a mentor
• Dress code requires dark gray (pewter) scrubs
• Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Previous travelers or permanent staff at this facility must have a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU Medicine system for more than one cumulative year without taking a required 2-year break
