Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Oncology position requiring at least 1 year of nursing experience and Epic charting proficiency.
Details
- 16-bed inpatient PCU/IMC unit at a hospital
- Mixed acuity unit including Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and MedSurg patients
- Oncology patient population including surgical, new diagnosis, and complications
- Patients receiving prolonged multi-day chemotherapy infusions
- Medical overflow and TPE patients based on staffing availability
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4 for both day and night shifts
- 12-hour night shift schedule, 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to any adult inpatient unit including Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and Observation
- Floating rotated among travelers within scope of practice
- Uses Epic charting system, Alaris, and Omnicell equipment
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred; required to hang chemo without it restricted
- Minimum 1 year of general nursing experience required
- IMC/PCU level experience required, including cardiac rhythm interpretation and titratable vasoactive drips
- Proficiency with chest ports required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Comfortable accepting MedSurg patient assignments
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
Additional Information
- Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a mixed acuity oncology and telemetry patient population
- CNA support available at a 1:8 ratio
- 24/7 charge nurse and clinical resource nurse support available, rarely carrying a patient assignment
- Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; RN responsible for central line draws
- Respiratory therapy and hospitalist support available 24/7
- Unit orientation includes 2 shifts with a qualified preceptor in addition to facility orientation and online education
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Free parking available
- Must maintain 90% compliance with monthly pre/post pain scoring audits
- Holiday coverage required for 2 of 4 major holidays during the contract unless prior arrangements are made
- Up to 1.5 weeks of time off may be approved, contingent on extending the contract to fulfill a full 13-week assignment
- No time off requests considered during the first 3 weeks of August due to the annual Sturgis Bike Rally
- First-time travelers considered if they have more than 1 year of experience and Epic experience
- Travelers must live at least 100 miles from any facility location, no local candidates accepted
- Permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a traveler
