Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for an Intermediate Care Unit (Stepdown) position requiring 2+ years of tele/stepdown experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 30-bed Intermediate Care Unit (Stepdown) within an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes chest pain, r/o MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post pacer, pre/post cardiac cath, and other intermediate care acuity overflow patients
  • Manage patients on Tikosyn therapy and radial band groin checks post-cath
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, with a goal of 1:4 and occasional 1:6
  • Support staff includes 2-3 CNAs per shift (ratio 1:10-12) and dedicated Tele Techs
  • Uses Sunrise EMR
  • Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors used; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • RNs must titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetalol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
  • 12-hour night shifts, must be on the unit ready to go by 6:45 PM, shifts run 7 PM-7 AM
  • Weekend requirement of 4 weekend night shifts per 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat/Sun considered weekend shifts)
  • Self-scheduling allowed with 4 requested days off per month, as long as unit needs are met
  • Floating required as needed into Tele or MedSurg units with ratios up to 1:6 or occasionally 1:7
  • 24/7 in-house support includes Hospitalist, Intensivist, IV/PICC team, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Experience with telemetry strip interpretation and drip titration required
  • Must be able to manage radial bands and perform groin checks post-cardiac catheterization

Additional Information

  • Charge nurses take a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts
  • Provide direct patient care including strip interpretation, drip titration, and post-cath monitoring
  • Floor-specific orientation includes 4 hours with HR followed by 2 days on the unit with a preceptor before working independently
  • Scrub dress code: navy blue top and bottom, navy scrub jackets, no hoodies
  • Holiday coverage flexibility required, though holidays are typically covered by permanent staff
  • Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Returning travelers to any WVU Medicine facility must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Cumulative traveler assignments within WVU Medicine cannot exceed one year before requiring a 2-year break
  • Attendance policy allows no more than 2 occurrences (tardies/call-offs) per 13-week contract
