Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele Float Pool position in Colorado Springs requiring a CO or compact RN license and 2 years of MS-Tele experience.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting within a multi-facility float pool serving Zone 1 in the Colorado Springs region
  • Float pool covers General MS-Tele along with specialties including Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
  • Patient population includes adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses spanning Cardiac, Neuro, Ortho, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery, Gynecology, Psych/Detox, ENT, and General Medicine
  • Nurse to patient ratios of 1:5-6 based on acuity
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts (7p-7a)
  • Required to float within Zone 1 to any of five facilities: Penrose Hospital, St Francis Medical Center, St Francis InterQuest, St Mary Corwin, and St Thomas More
  • May also float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds with appropriate skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units
  • Weekend requirement of 6-9 shifts within a 6-week schedule
  • Schedules released 4-6 weeks in advance; may follow single-facility or Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment format with facility confirmed 1-2 hours before shift start
  • May be required to participate in holiday rotation
  • Rare call/standby requirement during low census periods
  • Designated charge nurse on each unit who typically does not take a patient assignment unless necessary
  • Nurse aides available on units
  • Respiratory therapy equipment used including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • RNs required to titrate Heparin drips

Requirements

  • Active CO or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele experience required
  • Prior neuro experience preferred
  • Must be able to float across all assigned facilities within Zone 1
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across a variety of medical-surgical and telemetry specialties as part of a float pool team
  • No home base facility; travelers are expected to float throughout the entire Zone 1 region as needed
  • Must reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs zone city center to be eligible for this position
  • Responsible for securing housing that allows for flexibility to float throughout the full zone regardless of location chosen
  • Travelers should be present in-state for orientation week, even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • All time off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
  • First-time travelers may be considered for this position
