Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Nursing Float Pool ICU position at a Level III Trauma Center, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Details

  • >Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds
  • Position is part of the Nursing Float Pool, floating across ICU, PCU/CCU, Med-Surg, Rehab, and ED Holding units based on need
  • Primary assignment is expected to be in the ED Holding unit, which handles mixed-diagnosis patients including ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg level care
  • ICU patient population includes respiratory failure, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, complicated post-op patients, CVA's, flap surgeries, post-arrest, ETOH, and IVDA cases
  • Higher level ICU therapies include Rotoprone, manual prone positioning, hypothermia protocol, CRRT, and TPA administration; does not accept craniotomies, major trauma, or major cardiothoracic cases
  • PCU population includes respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, general medical/surgical, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and ortho cases
  • Med-Surg units cover oncology, ortho, and palliative patient populations including post-op, COPD, CHF, sepsis, DVT, AKI, dialysis, and COVID cases
  • Rehab unit cares for neuro patients including stroke, spinal cord injury, TBI, multi-trauma, and post-COVID/post-ICU patients, including vents and tracheostomies
  • Patient ratios: ICU 1:2, PCU/CCU 1:4, Medical/Surgical 1:5, Rehab team model 2:8 (RN, LPN, Tech)
  • In ED Holding, ratios are ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, and MS 1:5 depending on assignment
  • May also work ACLS Transport duties, transporting patients throughout the hospital including ED, CT, MRI, Nuc Med, PACU, and Cath Lab
  • Night shift ACLS RNs assist in the ED Holding area after 2300 when transport volume decreases
  • 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Uses EPIC EMR (required), Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • May float for partial shifts within scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required for all units
  • ACLS and NIHSS certification required for ICU and PCU assignments
  • NIHSS certification required for Med-Surg assignments
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required for ICU assignments
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required for PCU/PCU ER holds assignments
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required for Med-Surg assignments
  • ICU skills required: cardiac rhythm interpretation, ventilator management, invasive line management, ostomy care, drain management, and tracheostomy care
  • PCU skills required: cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, lumbar drain care, tracheostomy care, and IV med titration (Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, non-DKA insulin, heparin, occasionally Cardene)
  • Med-Surg skills required: IV management, PCA management, chest tube care, drain care, ostomy care, and IV antibiotic administration
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Strong communication and patient teaching/education skills required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Additional Information

  • Support staff includes techs at ratios of 1:14 (ICU), 1:10 (PCU), and 1:8-10 (Med-Surg)
  • 24/7 support available from respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists
  • Orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation (login access, modules, etc.) plus 1 day on the assigned unit
  • Traveler telemetry competency required as part of orientation
  • Phones are not permitted on the unit; scheduled breaks are required
  • Scrubs may be any color except camouflage and must maintain a professional appearance
  • ED Holding unit is fast-paced, requiring flexibility and resourcefulness from the traveler
  • Candidates should be prepared to work with isolation and non-ambulatory patients in the ED Holding unit
  • Rehab unit staff receive 'just in time' training from respiratory therapy for ventilator and tracheostomy care as needed
