Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed ICU position requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience, night shift availability, and a WA or compact RN license.
Details
- Level 3 Trauma Center hospital with 388 beds
- 18-bed mixed ICU including 8 single occupancy and 5 double occupancy rooms
- Patient population includes medical ICU (DKA, DTs, multisystem failure, ARDS, CIWA/ETOH, sepsis, PNA, and possible COVID mix), surgical ICU (open abdomen, thoracotomies), neuro ICU (CVA, intracranial hemorrhage, craniotomy/craniectomy with EVDs and ICP monitoring), and CVICU (CABG/TAVR post-op, fem-pop bypass, AAA repair)
- Not expected to care for CRRT, impella, balloon pump, or ECMO patients
- Patient ratio of 1:2-3 based on acuity
- 12-hour night shift schedule with every other weekend rotation
- 36 hours per week
- Uses Epic EMR, BD Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Floating required to Respiratory Unit, Surgical Floor, Telemetry Floor, and PCU, as well as helping-hands support in the ED
- Unit supported by mobility techs, HUC (0800-1830), 24/7 rapid response nurse, charge nurse, resource nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and 24/7 hospitalist and RT coverage
- Intensivist present throughout the day with occasional overnight on-call availability
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Travel experience strongly preferred, though flexibility possible with strong ICU background
- Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, medication titration, proning, hypothermia protocol, chest tubes, drains, and invasive line monitoring (a-lines, CVP)
- Traveler telemetry competency exam required to be completed and passed prior to start
Additional Information
- Care for a mixed ICU population with a preference for candidates stronger in medical ICU than CV/surgical ICU care
- New travelers will start on lower acuity patients with a gradual increase in assignment complexity based on demonstrated skill level
- General orientation includes two 12-hour shifts of on-unit orientation
- Holiday coverage expected for 1-2 holidays per season (summer/winter)
- Time off requests of up to 5 days may be approved, excluding holidays
- Overtime may be available but is offered to staff first
- Scrubs of any professional color are accepted
- Free parking available in designated areas
- Unit has a collaborative culture experienced in integrating travelers into the ICU team
