Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a mixed ICU position requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and a WA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in an 18-bed mixed ICU within a 388-bed Level 3 Trauma Center hospital
- Unit includes 8 single occupancy and 5 double occupancy rooms
- Care for medical ICU patients including DKA, DTs, multisystem failure, ARDS, CIWA/ETOH, sepsis, PNA, and COVID cases
- Care for surgical ICU patients including open abdomen and thoracotomy cases
- Occasional care for neuro ICU patients including CVA, intracranial hemorrhage, and craniotomy/craniectomy cases with EVD and ICP monitoring
- Care for CVICU patients including CABG/TAVR (24-48 hr post op), fem-pop bypass, and AAA repair
- Not expected to care for CRRT, impella, balloon pump, or ECMO patients
- Patient ratio of 1:2-3 based on acuity
- 12-hour day shift schedule with every other weekend rotation
- 48 hours per week
- May float to Respiratory Unit (Medical Floor), Surgical Floor, Telemetry Floor, or PCU
- May assist in the ED in helping-hands, transport, sitting, or task-based roles
- Uses Epic EMR, BD Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
- 24/7 support from Hospitalist, RT, and Intensivist coverage
- Unit staffed with Mobility Tech, HUC (0800-1830), 24/7 Rapid Response Nurse, Charge Nurse, Resource Nurse, and Phlebotomy support
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Travel experience strongly preferred
- Skills required: cardiac rhythm interpretation, medication titration, proning, hypothermia protocol knowledge, chest tube and drain management, and invasive line monitoring (a-lines, CVP)
- Traveler Telemetry Competency exam must be completed and passed prior to start
Additional Information
- Assignment length of up to 21 weeks available
- New ICU travelers will start on lower acuity patients with a gradual increase based on demonstrated skill level
- General orientation includes 2x 12-hour shifts of on-unit orientation
- Attempt made to cluster night shifts together when possible, though not guaranteed
- Up to 5 days of time off may be approved, excluding holidays
- Holiday coverage expected for 1-2 holidays per season (summer/winter)
- Overtime is sometimes available but offered to staff first
- Scrubs of any color permitted as long as professional
- Free parking available in designated areas
- Unit has a strong teamwork culture and is experienced in integrating travelers into the ICU
