Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a NC or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med/Tele nursing experience.

Details

  • Work in a 34-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit within a 337-bed hospital
  • Average census of 32 patients plus 3 surge rooms
  • Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designated facility
  • Cares for medical patients with diagnoses including ESRD, CHF, Pneumonia, Sickle Cell Crisis, Diabetes/DKA, wounds, and acute/chronic renal failure
  • Beginning Spring 2026, unit will also care for Hematology/Oncology patients (chemo certification not required, travelers will not administer chemo unless certified and willing)
  • RN patient ratios: 1:5 days, 1:6 nights (up to 1:7-8 during critical surge)
  • Supported by CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, dedicated pharmacist, case managers, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Respiratory Therapy, Nurse Educator, and Hospitalist coverage
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech support available
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, Rover communication, and Hoyer lift equipment
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend (EOW)
  • Floating required within scope of practice to Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, Levine Children's Hospital)
  • No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • ONS certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone) preferred; manager approval required if no prior experience
  • General medical/surgical skillset including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV starts, blood products, and wound care/dressing changes
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

  • Deliver comprehensive medical/surgical and telemetry nursing care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment
  • Newly opened unit (January 2025) with a welcoming, psychologically safe, and just/fair culture
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of holidays
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue for RNs

  • Traveler's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the facility
  • Returning employees must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
  • If floating mid-shift between facilities, travel time between locations is compensated
