Description
American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a NICU position at a teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Adult Critical Care and NICU experience and prior travel assignment completion.
Details
- Short term acute care teaching hospital and member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH) with 338 staffed beds
- Unit: RRT-NICU
- Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts from 18:30 to 7:00
- Every other weekend required with no on-call requirement
- Holiday coverage expected
- May float between Adult and NICU units if candidate has NICU experience
- Uses Draeger V500, Draeger VN500, and Servo U ventilators
- Charting system: Cerner
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an RRT in Adult Critical Care and NICU within the last 7 years
- Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment required
- BLS and CRT certifications required
- MD state license or compact license required (license required if applicable)
- ACLS, PALS, RRT, and NRP certifications preferred
- ED experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Skilled in airway management including endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, nasal/oral airway placement and suctioning, tracheostomy care, and sputum specimen collection
- Comfortable drawing and interpreting arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Experience with ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, high pressure alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Experience assisting in high risk deliveries and umbilical blood gas collection
- Proficient with medication delivery systems including nebulizers, MDIs, and aerosol setups
- Experience administering medications such as Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, and other inhaled therapies
- Bronchoscopy, Nitric Oxide (INo), and other advanced skills preferred
Additional Information
- Perform airway management, suctioning, and pulmonary hygiene for NICU and adult critical care patients
- Assist with high risk deliveries and manage umbilical blood gases
- Administer a range of respiratory medications and manage ventilator settings
- Troubleshoot ventilator alarms and wean patients from mechanical ventilation as needed
- Scrubs are not provided; ceil blue scrub color required
- Local candidates within 60 miles of the facility accepted at a lower rate
- First-time travelers may not be considered as 1 prior travel assignment is required
- Candidates with previous employment at this healthcare system must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
- No more than 7 days of requested time off (RTO) permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first two weeks of the assignment
