Description
American Traveler is hiring a RN for a CVICU Nights position requiring an active MD or Compact RN license and at least 1 year of CVICU experience, with first-time travelers considered if they have 2+ years of CVICU/open heart experience.
Details
- Work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) of a hospital setting
- 8-bed unit with an average daily census of 6 patients
- Patient population includes adult and geriatric cardiac surgery, CAD, vascular, and thoracic cases (CABG, valve repair/replacement, STEMI, NSTEMI, AFib w/ RVR, cardiogenic shock, peripheral bypasses, EVAR, VATS)
- Provides immediate post-op care for cardiac surgery patients, including 1:1 care for the first 12 hours
- Patient ratio is 1:2 in CVICU/CCRU; 1:3 if floated to lower acuity IMC
- Utilizes specialized equipment including FloTrac, CRRT, IABP, and Impella
- Manages groin/radial artery access using Fem Stop and TR bands
- Epic charting system experience preferred
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (1930-0800)
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating required within specialty, including to IMC and lower acuity units, with travelers prioritized to float first
- No scheduled on-call shifts required
Requirements
- Active RN license (MD state or Compact) required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only); NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred
- CPI certification required for compliance (Calm Every Storm online version only accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience required
- First-time travelers considered only with 2+ years of extensive CVICU/open heart experience
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, and central/PICC line care
- Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
- Experience managing IV sedation, paralytics, vasoactive and cardiac drips
- Experience with post cardiac surgery care, IABP, Impella, and sheath removal
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
- Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and multisystem organ dysfunction management
Additional Information
- Deliver critical care nursing to cardiac surgery, cardiac intervention, and vascular/thoracic patients
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy for ventilator management
- Provide infection prevention care including isolation precautions and PPE use
- Manage IV insulin protocols and other endocrine/metabolic needs
- Perform phlebotomy as needed
- Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility unless otherwise specified
- Maximum of 7 days RTO may be requested; requests of more than 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract
- One major holiday off during the winter season may be permitted depending on unit needs
- Returning travelers must have a 6-month break from the health system before reapplying
- Former staff must wait 12 months before returning as a traveler
- Most locations allow one contract and one extension, followed by a required 6-month break before returning to the same facility/unit
- Travelers must complete labs within 72 hours of contract signing
- Compliance documents must be submitted 5 days prior to start date
