Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring 2 years of specialty experience and Trauma Level I hospital background.
Details
- Work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) of a hospital environment
- Unit has an average daily census of 16 with 21 rooms/beds
- Patient population includes post cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, post heart and liver transplant, and ECMO support (VV and VA)
- Unit includes a 6-bed CVPACU that recovers vascular and structural procedures (TAVR, Mitral clip, Watchman) with recovery occurring Monday-Friday day shift
- Also recovers TEE/cardioversion patients and performs central line placements for temporary line needs
- Advanced therapies used include ECMO, Impella, IABP, LVAD initial insertion, and CRRT
- Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts (18:45-7:15)
- 13-week assignment length
- Weekend requirement of 8 shifts per 6-week schedule period, a combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday
- No on-call responsibilities
- Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Uses Epic charting system
- Navy blue scrub color required
Requirements
- Active RN license (Missouri or Compact) required, both Kansas and Missouri or compact license must be in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (TNCC preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU/ICU experience required, including a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days
- Trauma Level I hospital experience required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Patient ratio experience of 1:2
- Epic charting system experience required
- Skills required include CVICU, MICU, and SICU experience, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, CVP monitoring, epicardial pacing wire care, post cardiac surgery care, pre/post cardiac cath/intervention, Swan-Ganz monitoring, sheath removal, TAVR, and valve repair/replacement care
- Additional required skills include IV insulin protocols, management of liver failure, AKI, and chronic/acute renal failure, I&O monitoring, pre/post hemodialysis management, shunt/fistula care, port access/management, arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line management, IV starts and maintenance, continuous IV sedation, emergency medication administration, procedural sedation monitoring, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Respiratory skills required including chest tube assistance, BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator management, fresh tracheostomy care, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Additional required skills include ACT, fibrinogen, PT/PTT, infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, management of high-output drains, and recognition of infection in immunosuppressed patients
- Two professional references required from within the past year, one from a supervisor level or above and the second from a charge RN who has worked directly with the candidate
- Social Security number required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide advanced critical care nursing to complex cardiovascular, transplant, and ECMO patients
- Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for this position, as local candidates within this radius are not accepted
- RTO is capped at a maximum of 7 days and must be finalized at the time of consideration, with no additional time off requests permitted after offer or onsite
- Compliance documents are due 2 Fridays before the start date, with 10-15 hours of required modules due the Monday before start
- Infusion pump and glucometer training must be completed by the Sunday prior to the start date
- EPIC training module or test-out option must be completed as part of onboarding
- Prior permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
- Returning travelers require an 18-month tenure with a required 3-month break in service
- Travel partners are not accepted for this position
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Facility may extend an offer without an interview, though candidates may request to interview with the manager if preferred
