Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Medical Surgical unit requiring a PA or compact RN license and at least 1 year of med/surg experience.

Details

• Medical Surgical unit setting within a hospital
• Patient ratio of 1:7
• Night shift (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30) or day shift (3x12 hours, 7:00-19:30) available, though straight days likely won't be accepted
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Floating required within the hospital and possibly to sister facilities within a 10-mile radius

Requirements

• Active PA or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience required
• BLS certification required (AHA only)
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, port access/management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and IV starts/maintenance
• Gastrointestinal skills required including bariatric surgery care, bowel obstruction management, colostomy/ileostomy care, and feeding tube management
• Respiratory skills required including BiPAP/CPAP management, nasal cannula and oxygen administration/tanks, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and tracheostomy care
• Genitourinary/renal skills required including continuous bladder irrigation, peritoneal dialysis/CAPD, pre/post hemodialysis management, and renal failure care
• Medication administration experience required including heparin and insulin
• Professional skills required including isolation precautions/PPE, wound care, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and rapid response/code team use
• Work setting experience required in med/surg, neurological/psychiatric care, and orthopedics including total joint replacement and surgical drains
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years preferred
• SSN, DOB, and RTO required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit including management of GI, respiratory, genitourinary, and orthopedic conditions
• Participate in cardiac monitoring and emergency response protocols including rapid response and code teams
• Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted for this position
• Former permanent employees of the facility are not eligible to return as travelers
• Travel pairs may be accommodated based on facility need, though the same schedule cannot be guaranteed
• Candidates must be available to work every other holiday
• Fingerprinting, drug screening, and required labs must be completed within 24-48 hours of signing
• All compliance requirements must be cleared by the Wednesday prior to start
• Approximately 1 hour of pre-start orientation modules required before entering the facility
