Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU/Stepdown position requiring 2 years of progressive care experience and a CO or Compact RN license.

  • Fast-paced surgical overflow unit caring for floor status trauma and general surgery patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:3
  • Rotating 3x12 shifts, days and nights, on a variable schedule (approximately 9 day shifts and 9 night shifts per 6-week period)
  • Weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights and Saturday and Sunday days
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within scope to sister facilities or to Medical PCU/acute care-Med Surg units at a 1:5 ratio (may flex up on Med Surg)
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Navy scrub color required

Requirements

  • Active CO or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive care or intermediate care experience required
  • Stepdown or ICU RN experience qualifies
  • Trauma Level II hospital experience required; Trauma Level I and teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Experience with surgical patient populations required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Skilled in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
  • Skilled in IV therapy, central line, PICC line, and peripheral line care/management
  • Experience with blood product administration and surgical drain management
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Experience with Heparin protocols and managing cardiac drips (titration not required)
  • Tracheostomy care/management and plastics/breast reconstruction experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide PCU-level nursing care requiring ACLS competency, telemetry monitoring, and surgical patient population experience
  • Care for floor status trauma and general surgery patients in a fast-paced overflow setting
  • First-time travelers accepted if comfortable with a fast-paced surgical overflow environment
  • Maximum of 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract
  • RTO not permitted during specified blackout periods around major holidays and peak census times
  • No blocked scheduling requests permitted
  • Completion of all facility-specific modules required within the first week of assignment
  • Local candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility may be considered at the local rate
  • Candidates previously employed by UCHealth or its affiliates must disclose prior employment for eligibility review
  • Return travelers who completed a full year on assignment may not be rebooked for at least one year
