Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring a CA RN license, Epic experience, and at least 1 year of L&D nursing experience.
Details
- Labor and Delivery unit in a hospital setting caring for a high-risk OB, culturally diverse patient population
- Approximately 20 patient visits per day with 11 rooms/15 beds and an average daily census of 15-20
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 18:00-06:30
- Weekend shifts required to meet staffing needs
- Floating required to meet facility needs, with travelers given priority to float within their scope
- RNs circulate on cesarean sections
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required, must be in hand at time of submission (pending licenses not accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience required
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate
- Experience with patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:3
- Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, administration of blood and blood products, starting and maintaining IVs, and use of infusion pumps/drips
- Labor and Delivery management skills including assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, amnioinfusion, and sterile vaginal exams
- Experience with medication administration including anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, magnesium sulfate therapy, pitocin, and terbutaline
- Neonatal care skills in the delivery room including APGAR scoring, ID/security banding, and use of radiant warmers
- Antepartum care skills including NST, reflex checks, triage of obstetrical patients, and use of external fetal heart monitoring
- Newborn care skills including cord care, discharge teaching, infant identification, and newborn assessment
- Postpartum care skills including breastfeeding/lactation support, foley catheter management, and fundus/lochia/perineum care
- Pain management experience including epidural anesthesia, pain assessment, and use of IV PCA
- Fetal monitoring skills including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and use of external and internal fetal monitoring
- Two supervisory references required, covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty setting
- Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive nursing care across the labor, delivery, and postpartum continuum in a high-risk, culturally diverse OB unit
- Circulate on cesarean sections and assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries
- Travelers may be expected to float between sister facilities near the contracted facility
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- RTO requests should be minimal and submitted upfront; requests beyond 7 days may delay the offer process
- No more than 7 days of RTO permitted
- Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for the local pay rate
- Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a travel nurse and must not reside within 50 miles of the facility
- Candidates must disclose any prior work history at a Providence facility as a permanent employee, travel nurse, or per-diem/registry staff, including location and dates
