Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatrics/MST unit position requiring 3 years of experience, PALS certification, and AZ or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Acute care mixed unit caring for both adult and pediatric patients (MST/Pediatrics)
- 10-bed unit with ratios of 1:3-4 for pediatric patients and 1:5 for MST adult patients
- Common pediatric diagnoses include respiratory illnesses (RSV, influenza, COVID), chronic seizures, dehydration, appendectomy, and failure to thrive
- Common adult diagnoses include total hip/knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, COPD, pneumonia, MRSA/C-diff infections, and chest pain requiring telemetry
- No feeding tubes, trachs, or vents managed on this unit; patients requiring higher acuity are stabilized and transferred out
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Administers high-flow oxygen and BiPap for stable adult patients with chronic conditions
- Tele monitoring for adult MST patients with remote monitor techs; RNs must be able to read tele strips
- Bedside monitors used for pediatric patients
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
- Every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday for nights)
- Must work 11/25-11/27
- Holiday rotation required to distribute holidays fairly
- Standby/call rotation required during low census periods
- First to float on the unit
- Floating required to MCU or MST unit for adult MST patients and to the birthing unit for mom-baby couplets (not to west campus)
- RNs with labor and delivery experience may float to that unit
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
- Experience working with both pediatric and adult patients required
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract
- Strong clinical skills required as facility notes newer nurses or those out of acute care recently may not be suitable
- Must be able to read telemetry strips
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide primary nursing care with support from nursing assistants who typically care for 10 patients; RNs take on primary care responsibilities if no NA is available
- Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds spanning MST, Pediatrics, and an Acuity Adaptable MCU unit admitting ICU/PCU/MST patients
- Unit orientation is based on individual experience level following hospital orientation
- Navy scrub color required
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
- PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
- Position requires profile review and a manager interview
