Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift position on a fast-paced GI/GU unit requiring 2 years of med/surg experience and travel experience.
Details
- Work on a Medical Surgical unit (6900 GI/GU) at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
- Patient population includes ostomy, colon resection, colon cancer, bladder cancer, GU, and medical overflow cases on a high turn-over surgical unit
- Patient ratios of 1:4-6
- Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
- Centralized telemetry monitoring used on the unit
- Unit administers Heparin, Lidocaine (pain only), Bicarb, Bivalirudin, and occasionally stable non-titrated Amiodarone drips
- PCAs, epidurals, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) with various irrigation solutions are used
- Epic EMR used for charting
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted at submission)
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required; BSN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience required
- Travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Skills required: IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube care and management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and administration of Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
- Basic knowledge of telemetry monitoring preferred
Additional Information
- Provide excellent patient care with strong documentation skills and a team-oriented approach
- Unit performs special procedures including foley catheter care, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), TURPs, and colorectal patient protocols
- Navy scrub color required
- Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
- No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
- Permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Returning travelers must have an 18-month tenure limit with a required 3-month break in service
- Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved
