Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 2 trauma and stroke center requiring 2 years of ED experience and TNCC/PALS certification.
Details
- Work in a high-volume Emergency Department seeing 150-180 patients daily
- Main ED includes 33 beds with 8 Trauma/Resuscitation beds and a Behavioral Health pod convertible to medical use
- Vertical care area utilized for ESI 3-4 patients or as additional higher acuity pods depending on flow
- Level 2 trauma center with heavy trauma volume including stab wounds, GSWs, MVCs, drownings, and falls, especially during summer months
- Complete stroke center capable of caring for stroke patients up to 24 hours
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for critically ill children and cardiac patients supported by an on-site cardiac catheterization lab
- Travelers participate in Sexual Assault patient care in rotation with permanent staff, including evidence collection (buccal swabs, fingernail scraping, clothing collection, and victim interviews) with support from a 24/7 SA Quality Coordinator
- RN patient ratio is 1:4-5 and ED Tech ratio is 1:10
- Uses Epic EMR, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
- Variable 12-hour shifts including 0630-1900, 1000-2230, 1200-0030, 1400-0200, and 1830-0700
- 36 hours per week with potential for every weekend depending on staffing needs
- No on-call requirements
- May float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU as a task nurse within scope of practice
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, excluding travel experience
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS
- CPI or MAB/MOAB certification preferred
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- Experience with all patient populations including trauma, stroke, sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, and GI bleeds
- Proficiency in ESI assessments during triage
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and prioritization skills required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must be comfortable performing Sexual Assault evidence collection duties
Additional Information
- Provide emergency care across the full patient spectrum from neonates to geriatric patients
- Perform triage duties including ESI assessments to prioritize patient care
- Participate in Sexual Assault case rotation including evidence collection and victim interviews, with support from a dedicated SA Quality Coordinator, charge nurses, and other staff
- Unit supported by ED Techs, Lead Tech, Charge Nurses on day and night shifts, 24/7 phlebotomy, Respiratory Therapy, 24/7 physician and NP coverage, Radiology/CT, Pharmacy Tech, and Security
- Orientation includes 8 hours of facility NEO and 4 hours of ED-specific education, plus a minimum of 2-3 shadow shifts depending on contracted hours
- Holiday coverage only required if needed
- Time off requests require manager approval and no requests are considered during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking provided
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Travelers must live more than 100 miles from any Monument facility
- Permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
- Facility is known for renewing traveler contracts
