Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele Float position supporting an ED Holding unit, requiring prior travel experience and 2+ years of MS/Tele nursing background.

Details

  • Work in an ED Holding unit (EDIP), an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department
  • Care for adult patients with any medical/surgical diagnosis, including some PCU-level patients
  • Float required to ED and MedSurg areas as needed in addition to MS/Tele caseload
  • Target ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele patients or 1:4 for PCU-level patients
  • Night shift, 4x12 hours (18:45-07:15), scheduled for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Uses cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other standard monitoring equipment
  • Charting and communication via Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR
  • May be assigned to a Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS and CPI preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Skills required: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, on-unit and remote telemetry monitoring, use of Rapid Response Teams, colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure care, blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen therapy, and tracheostomy management
  • Preferred skills: NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury care, traumatic brain injury care, ortho trauma, total joint replacement, and wound care/wound vac
  • Epic experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references OK at submission)

Additional Information

  • Provide nursing care to a mixed-acuity patient population in a high-turnover, fast-paced ED Holding environment
  • All candidates will be interviewed prior to placement
  • Unit orientation is 12 hours, followed by pre-start modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Must be willing to work a Storm Team/Hurricane Team assignment and report during catastrophic events or disasters
  • RTO of 7 days or less may be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • No additional RTO requests allowed after signing
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with separate transportation and schedules
  • Former Novant Health/New Hanover PERM, PRN, or EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
  • Current travel or per diem clinicians at the facility must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
