Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position on a Cardio Thoracic Unit requiring an active IL RN license and 2 years of experience
Details
- Work on the Cardio Thoracic Unit, a telemetry unit in an acute care hospital with 70 beds
- Patient population includes MI, CHF, A fib, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placement, thoracic and lung surgery patients, esophagectomy patients, and general medical overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- PCTs support the unit with ratios of 1:8-9 on days, 1:9-10 on evenings, and 1:10-12 on nights
- 24/7 charge nurse coverage and house supervisor available, with charge nurses rarely taking patient assignments
- Tele/monitor techs are present on the unit, though RNs must be able to read and interpret their own telemetry strips using Phillips monitors
- RNs manage titratable drips, primarily Cardizem and heparin
- RNs troubleshoot CPAP/BiPAP for patients on home regimens and heated high flow in special circumstances for COVID patients
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, scheduled 1900-0730
- Weekend rotation required every other weekend (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday for nights)
- Holiday rotation required, including Memorial Day Eve, July 3rd, Labor Day Eve, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve
- No call or standby requirements at this time
- Floating required to other general medical units
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS certification recommended
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- EKG interpretation skills required
- Medication titration experience required, including Cardizem and heparin drips
- Proficiency in basic nursing skills required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for cardiac and thoracic surgical patients, including chest tube management and post-surgical monitoring
- Interpret telemetry strips independently despite monitor tech support
- Unit-specific orientation typically consists of one shift or partial shift, depending on prior OSF facility experience
- Scrubs may be any color but must not include children's or cartoon-type prints as this is an adult unit
- Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are eligible for a reduced local pay rate rather than standard travel rate
- No radius rule restricts eligibility for this position
- COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
