Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 2 years of pediatric cardiac ICU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 20-bed Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • Unit is divided into two mirrored sides of 10 beds each, with a centralized nurses station and most critical patients placed nearest to it
  • Care for a high acuity pediatric patient population ages 0-18 with congenital heart differences, including pre/post-surgical, pre/post-transplant, s/p cath lab, VAD, ECMO, Impella, dialysis, and Aquadex patients
  • RN to patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
  • 1 CNA/health care tech per shift supports unit secretary duties and nursing needs
  • Unit secretary staffed every shift, with free-floating charge nurse and resource nurse support
  • 24/7 in-house RT, cardiologist, and intensivist coverage
  • Centralized and bedside cardiac monitoring, no dedicated telemetry tech
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • 12-hour night shift schedule, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend or fewer as needed (Fri/Sat/Sun)
  • Floating required to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics as needed
  • Call requirement applies based on previous scheduling history

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similarly acute facility required
  • Experience with fresh open heart post-op and transplant patients required
  • Experience with Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), Impella, and ECMO devices required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Ability and competency to float to PICU, to be discussed during interview
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the position
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

  • Provide critical care nursing to high acuity pediatric cardiac patients, including those on advanced life support and renal replacement devices
  • Facility features 247 licensed beds, Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center designation, Chest Pain Center certification, Certified Stroke Center status, and a congenital cardiology program ranked #7 by USNWR
  • Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, trust, and accountability
  • Orientation includes general new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage requires travelers to work 75% of holidays, with the unit standard being every other holiday
  • RTO requests are subject to manager approval
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Returning employees or travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
  • In-house phlebotomy is available but rarely needed since most patients have central lines
  • IV/VAT team support is available
