Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Emergency Observation Unit of a 457-bed Trauma Level III teaching hospital
  • 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
  • Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA to patient ratio of 1:10
  • EPIC EMR system used
  • Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system used
  • 12-hour night shift schedule, 7p-7a, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required to other nursing units within scope of practice, with travelers prioritized for float assignments
  • Floating may be required across Region 1 facilities including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH peds only)

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIHSS certification required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skilled in stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, and NGT placement
  • Experience with drain and tube management including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley insertion/management
  • Experience with PCA pumps and medication drip management including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for cardiac and observation patients including medication administration and drip management
  • Supported by a Supervisor, Charge RN, Resource RN, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, 24/7 Hospitalist coverage, Phlebotomy, and an IV/VAT Team
  • Orientation includes NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with any shortfall added to the end of the contract
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the position
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if previously employed in a permanent position
  • Free employee parking provided
  • Team-oriented department culture with activities such as a unit book club and Netflix watching clubs
