Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ER RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring strong triage skills and a minimum of 2 years of ER experience.
Details
- Acute care Emergency Department setting with 18 beds including 4 trauma bays, all private
- Department includes 2 fast track rooms and a triage area
- Not a designated trauma center or stroke center; has interventional Cath Lab for STEMIs Monday-Friday 8a-5p
- Approximately 67 patient visits per day
- Nurse to patient ratios are 4:1 for half the department and 5:1 for the other half
- Common diagnoses include chest pain rule-out, abdominal/pelvic pain, diabetes, hypertension, COPD, and minor injuries
- RNs are expected to titrate drips and manage set-rate cardiac drips
- 1 physician on-site 24/7 with a second physician 12p-10p; no mid-levels
- Charge nurses assist with patient assignments during slower hours or call-ins; House Supervisor available 24/7
- Techs and medics support patient care including vitals, IV starts, blood draws, EKGs, and splinting
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7 for breathing treatments, ABGs, BiPAP, and ventilators
- Unmanned central cardiac monitoring system (Nihon Kohden) with RNs responsible for strip interpretation
- X-Ray and CT located adjacent to the ED; RNs assist with patient transport as needed
- RNs perform phlebotomy alongside techs and medics
- Shift schedule includes 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 11a-11p, and 3p-3a rotations
- Scheduling is completed by the coordinator or director 4-6 weeks in advance with no block scheduling
- Weekend requirement is every 3rd weekend (Sat/Sun for days, Fri/Sat for nights)
- Holiday coverage may be required based on department need
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is routine among ER staff but does not include the ER overflow unit
- Uses MEDITECH EMR system
Requirements
- Active RN license (IN or Compact) required
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience required
- Prior triage experience required
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), NIHSS (AHA only)
- BSN not required for this position
- Must be willing to work weekends as scheduled
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care in a busy Emergency Department including triage, monitoring, and treatment
- Interpret cardiac telemetry strips using Nihon Kohden monitors
- Administer inhalers to hold patients as needed
- Collaborate with techs, medics, respiratory therapists, and physicians as part of the care team
- Unit/department orientation consists of one 12-hour shift
- Scrub color requirement is navy or royal blue
- Hold patients are intermixed within the department
- One room is designated for psychiatric patients, though it is not a true seclusion room
- Security is present with weapon detectors at public entrances
- Candidates who worked in a permanent capacity at the facility within the last 6 months will not be considered
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
