Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for an Ortho-Neuro unit requiring prior orthopedic patient and PCA pump experience.
Details
- Work on a 33-bed Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit with all private rooms in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes elective ortho surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fall-related fractures, neuro-surgical back and neck cases, and general Med/Surg patients
- Patient ratio of 1 nurse to 6 patients
- PCTs support the unit with vitals, FSBS, ADLs, and Foley removal, with staffing typically ranging from 2-4 PCTs
- RTs manage CPAP, BiPap, and High Flow respiratory equipment
- Remote telemetry available if needed and monitored off-unit; RNs are not required to read strips
- RNs are not required to titrate drips; common drips include IV fluids and PCA pumps, with no heparin or other titratable drips
- 12-hour day shifts from 0700-1930 with a half-hour lunch break
- Every-other-weekend requirement, with Saturday/Sunday shifts for days
- Holiday coverage required based on unit staffing needs
- Travelers are first to float and may be floated to any Med/Surg unit, or to Tele within their skillset
- May be subject to low census call-off depending on contract terms
- Uses EPIC EMR
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Prior experience with orthopedic patients and PCA pumps required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit has 24/7 Charge Nurse coverage; day charge may take patients if necessary, night charge always carries a full patient assignment
- Orientation includes 1 day of EPIC training followed by 1 day on the floor with a preceptor before working independently
- Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be true scrub jackets in royal blue with no hoodies or sweat-jackets permitted
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered as a traveler
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
- Travelers are limited to a cumulative total of one year working within the WVU system before requiring a 2-year break
