Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift hospital position requiring 2+ years of experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes diagnoses such as dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture
- Unit includes an isolation area for COVID patients
- Multi-level care setting, though stepdown patients are cared for by stepdown staff rather than M/S staff
- Target patient ratio of 1:5-6
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (6:45 PM to 7:15 AM)
- 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules accepted
- 13-20 week contract lengths accepted
- Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract
- Floating required within or near the facility
- Uses Pyxis for medication and Epic for documentation, with SBAR for communication
- Scheduling is based on unit needs
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
- Contract staff may be reassigned to other units if consolidated to a Centralized Office mid-contract
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required (pending license accepted at time of consideration)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BLS certification required
- Experience with Med/Surg and Telemetry (remote monitoring) required
- Skilled in interpretation of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube management, and pre/post hemodialysis management
- Experience with blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and PICC line management
- Skilled in starting IVs and administering heparin and PCA
- Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula
- Proficient in non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, and portable oxygen tanks
- Experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac management
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Experience with telemetry on-unit monitoring, accessing ports, insulin management, CVA care, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care using rapid response team protocols when needed
- Unit orientation is 24 hours, with hospital orientation occurring during the first week and mandatory daily class attendance
- Navy/white scrubs required
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- RTO of up to 7 days can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday, with additional time requiring facility approval
- No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
- Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at consideration
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, as both are not permitted simultaneously
