Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a Birth Center role requiring at least 1 year of L&D experience and welcoming first-time travelers.
Details
- Work in the Birth Center unit of a Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds
- Unit includes 9 LDR, 2 OB OR, 2 OB PACU, 11 Level II NICU, 4 bed Peds, 20 bed Mother/Baby, 18 bed START unit for Perinatal Addiction, and 3 OB ED beds (20 weeks and above)
- Level II Perinatal Center caring for patients 32 weeks and above
- Common diagnoses include hypertension, magnesium administration, and substance abuse medication management, with a high volume of low-risk patients needing intermittent monitoring
- Performs epidurals, fetal monitoring, and IV therapy
- Handles antepartum care requiring continued fetal monitoring and post-labor transition to Mother/Baby
- Unit averages 175-200 deliveries per month
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN and NANN guidelines: 1:1 for active labor and 1:2 for non-active laboring patients
- Uses Epic Stork and GE Centricity EMR systems
- Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system
- 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0700, with rotating weekends every other week
- No on-call requirements
- Schedule is created in 3-week increments
- Floating limited to areas of competency, with no floating to the START unit
- Traditional travelers may float between L&D and Mother/Baby units
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience required
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required
- Fetal monitoring certification required (AWHONN or Relias module)
- Strong L&D skills including cervical exams, antepartum and labor care, amnio infusion, epidurals, fetal monitoring, IV therapy, and Pitocin administration
- Post-partum experience with mother and baby beyond the initial 24-hour transition period, including basic breastfeeding support
- Experience with couplet care once mother and baby are stable
- Pyxis medication dispensing experience required
- Experience with HUGS security system preferred
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including cervical exams, fetal monitoring, and medication administration
- No CNAs on the unit; Surgery Techs available Monday-Friday 0600-1500, with phlebotomy support available
- NICU team attends deliveries at 34 weeks or less when needed
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for high-risk deliveries or concerning fetal strips
- Hospitalist and Laborist OBGYN coverage available 24/7
- Support from OB Group, Midwife, and Family Practice Group
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and two unit shifts covering delivery and C-section/triage experience
- Annual core competencies (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.), medication exam, and unit competency exam must be completed before arrival
- Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor holiday
- RTO requests require manager approval
- Scrubs provided by facility
