Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Labor & Delivery position on nights, requiring at least 1 year of L&D experience and a WA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Birth Center of a Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds
- Unit includes 9 LDR, 2 OB OR, 2 OB PACU, 11 Level II NICU, 4-bed Peds, 20-bed Mother/Baby unit, 18-bed START unit for Perinatal Addiction, and 3 OB ED beds (20 weeks and above)
- Level II Perinatal Center caring for patients 32 weeks and above
- Patient population includes hypertension, magnesium administration, substance abuse medication management, epidurals, fetal monitoring, and a high volume of low-risk patients needing intermittent monitoring
- Provides antepartum care requiring continued fetal monitoring
- Post-labor patients transition to Mother/Baby unit once stable; babies 32-34 weeks transfer to NICU
- Unit averages 175-200 deliveries per month
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN and NANN guidelines: 1:1 for active labor and 1:2 for non-active laboring patients
- EMR: EPIC Stork and GE Centricity
- IV pumps: Alaris
- Medication dispensing via Pyxis system
- 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700) with rotating weekends every other week
- Schedule made in 3-week increments
- No on-call requirements
- Floating limited to areas of competency between L&D and Mother/Baby; no floating to START unit
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience required
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required
- Fetal monitoring certification required (AWHONN or Relia's module)
- Strong L&D skills required, including cervical exams, antepartum and labor care, amnio infusion, epidurals, fetal monitoring, IV insertion, and Pitocin administration
- Post-partum experience required, including basic breastfeeding support beyond the initial transition period
- Comfortable providing couplet care once mother and baby are stable
- Pyxis medication dispensing system experience required
- HUGS security system experience preferred
Additional Information
- Unit does not have CNAs; support includes Surgery Techs (Monday-Friday 0600-1500), Phlebotomy, NICU team for infants 34 weeks or less, RT available 24/7 for high-risk deliveries, and 24/7 Hospitalist and Laborist coverage
- Additional support from OB Group, Midwife, and Family Practice Group
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and two shifts on the unit covering delivery and C-section/triage experience
- Annual core competencies (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.), medication exam, and unit competency exam must be completed before arrival
- Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor holiday
- RTO requests require manager approval
- Scrubs provided by facility
- Free parking available
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
