Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med Surg/Telemetry RN with at least 1 year of MedSurg/Tele experience for a night shift contract requiring a WI or compact RN license.

Details

• Med Surg unit with telemetry monitoring in a Level IV Trauma Center hospital
• 28-bed unit with an average daily census of 20-22 patients
• Patient population is mostly geriatric with cardiac (CHF, chest pain obs), neuro (seizure obs, stroke obs, TIA), and general medical (COPD, respiratory/kidney/liver/GI) diagnoses
• RN patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:6-7 (up to 1:8) on nights
• CNA patient ratios of 1:5-6 on days and 1:7-8 on nights
• 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Low census on-call possible, up to 36 hours per contract
• 50% holiday coverage required per contract
• Floating required to other MedSurg units or anywhere in the hospital where MedSurg patients are located, including ER hold and ICU, but only for MedSurg patient assignments
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Centralized tele monitoring supported by tele techs and a central monitor at the nurse's station

Requirements

• Active RN license (WI or compact) required
• BLS and NIHSS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of MedSurg/Telemetry experience required
• Experience with NG tube placement/management, foley placement/management, chest tube management, Pleurex and other drains, wound care, and central line/port/midline blood draws required
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
• Experience titrating drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and insulin within set parameters
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to MedSurg/Telemetry patients including medication administration, drip titration, and wound care
• Support from a Charge RN with a reduced patient assignment, HUC until 2300, phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws, RT and hospitalist coverage 24/7, and daytime OT/PT/ST
• Unit is equipped with various patient lifts, including a ceiling lift
• Orientation includes NEO and one 12-hour shift on the unit to learn workflow
• Schedule is created by the manager in 6-week increments and released approximately 3 weeks in advance
• RTO requests must be approved through the manager
• Scrubs must be a solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, denim, or designs
