Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of experience and ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.

Details

• Work in the ICU/Acute Care unit of a hospital in an acute care setting
• 7-bed ICU with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Patient population includes COPD, AFIB, post-op cases (e.g., colon resections), diabetic and COVID-19 patients, and occasional alcohol withdrawal, suicidal, and GI bleed cases
• Manages common titrated drips including Cardizem, Levophed, and Insulin
• Uses Cerner EMR for charting
• 12-hour night shifts from 7 PM to 7:30 AM
• Weekend rotation of every third weekend for night shifts
• Workweek runs Sunday to Saturday with schedules posted 6 weeks at a time
• Block scheduling may be accommodated upon request
• Floating to Med-Surg/Acute Care (1:4 ratio) is infrequent, with travelers generally remaining in the ICU
• Call/standby not required but appreciated if willing to pick up shifts
• RNs read their own telemetry strips using Nihon Kohden cardiac monitors
• Respiratory Therapy is in-house 24/7 with ventilators, BiPAP, and Vapotherm equipment available

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (AHA) required
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required, with ICU experience strongly preferred
• Proficiency in managing a range of ICU patient conditions, including titrating critical drips
• BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

• Provide total patient care in the ICU, including managing critical drips and ventilated patients
• Hospitalist and Nurse Practitioner support available daily, with on-call coverage at night
• ER or Anesthesia team assists with emergent situations such as intubations
• Cardiopulmonary physician available for intubations when needed
• Charge Nurse and House Supervisor support available, with House Supervisor present during off shifts and weekends
• Charge nurse may take patient assignments as needed
• Nurse aides from Acute Care may float in to assist ICU staff
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts during the first week, including HR/computer-based training, equipment orientation, and a preceptor-led shift on the floor
• Holiday coverage is negotiable, though willingness to work holidays is helpful
• Dress code requires pewter-colored scrub tops or jackets as the outermost layer, with black pants, shoes, and socks
• Maximum of 2 cancellations allowed per 13-week assignment
