Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 2 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring 2 years of ED experience and an active SD or compact RN license.
Details
- Emergency Department in a Level 2 Trauma Center hospital setting
- Main ED has 33 beds including 8 trauma/resuscitation beds and a pod with 4 behavioral health rooms
- Vertical care area used for lower-acuity ESI 3-4 patients or as additional high-acuity pods
- Sees approximately 150-180 patients daily
- Cares for neonatal to geriatric patients including sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, GI bleeds, and trauma cases such as stab wounds, GSWs, MVCs, drownings, and falls
- Complete Stroke Center accepting stroke patients up to 24 hours post-symptom onset
- Cardiac patient population supported by an on-site cardiac catheter lab
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for critically ill children
- Travelers participate in Sexual Assault patient care and evidence collection in rotation with permanent staff, excluding pelvic exams
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-5
- ED Tech support at a 1:10 ratio
- Charge nurse coverage on both day and night shifts
- 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, physician, hospitalist, and NP coverage available
- Uses Epic EMR, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
- Variable shift schedule including 0630-1900, 1000-2230, 1200-0030, 1400-0200, and 1830-0700
- Staff working variable shifts will not work both days and nights in the same week
- Potential to work every weekend depending on staffing needs
- May float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas in a task-nurse capacity only
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) required
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, excluding travel experience
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS
- CPI or MAB/MOAB certification preferred
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
- Experience with all listed patient populations preferred; manager approval required if lacking specific patient type experience
- Strong ESI assessment skills for triage required
- Critical thinking, prioritization, and communication skills required
- ICU RN experience qualifies for floating to ED
- PCU RN experience qualifies for floating to ICU
- Epic EMR experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive emergency care across the full patient acuity spectrum, from minor to critical cases
- Perform ESI assessments during triage to determine patient prioritization
- Participate in Sexual Assault patient care rotation, including evidence collection with support from a 24/7 SA Quality Coordinator and resource materials
- Facility orientation includes 8 hours of NEO plus 4 hours of ED-specific education and a minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit
- Holiday coverage only required if needed
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking available
- Travelers must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument facility to be eligible
- Permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Time off requests require manager approval, and no requests will be considered during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
- Facility is known for being traveler-friendly and frequently renews traveler contracts
