Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position on night shift, requiring an active IL RN license and multiple emergency care certifications.
Details
- Work in the Emergency Department of a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital
- 65-bed unit with all private rooms and 2 trauma bays
- Care for a wide variety of patients from newborns to the elderly, including critically ill and trauma patients
- Level 1/2 trauma patients are cared for by a specialized trauma team, with travelers typically assisting after stabilization and transfer to a pod
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity and department needs
- Titrate a wide variety of drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensives
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shift schedule with set start times, non-rotating
- Every other weekend rotation required, with weekend days varying by shift
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday or based on department needs, negotiable based on contract
- No call or standby requirements
- Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, primarily for permanent staff
- ED techs available at a 1:9 ratio, along with respiratory therapists and a monitor tech
- Philips cardiac monitors used, with orientation provided
- Radiology or transport staff handle X-Ray/CT transport; phlebotomy and nursing staff both draw labs
- 2 charge nurses per shift plus 24/7 house supervisor support
- Minimum of 3 attending physicians and/or mid-levels staffed at all times
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC certification required
- TNCC or TNS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
- At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
- SANE RN experience preferred
- Experience working in a teaching hospital with residents preferred
- Proficiency in interpreting cardiac rhythms and recognizing life-threatening arrhythmias
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
Additional Information
- Provide emergency nursing care across a broad range of patient acuities and complaints
- Collaborate with a dedicated trauma team, charge nurses, and house supervisor for critical and trauma cases
- Trouble-shoot respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices with support from respiratory therapists
- Tasteful scrubs required with solid colored shirts underneath
- Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate
- No radius rule restricting eligibility for this position
- Time off requests may be included in the contract and are reviewed for approval based on scheduling needs
