Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a true float position requiring 3 years of ED experience and CA RN licensure.
Details
- Emergency Department setting treating a combined adult/pediatric patient population
- True float position covering multiple hospital campuses located about 15 minutes apart, with shuttle transport available between sites
- Travelers may be assigned to a different campus each shift and will be notified 2 hours prior to start time regarding reporting location
- It is rare for travelers to float mid-shift
- 3x12 Night shift schedule (19:00-07:30) with possible scheduling for Day shifts (07:00-19:30) as needed
- Weekend rotation and on-call requirements apply
- Facility is a STEMI Certified and Stroke Certified Facility handling shock/trauma cases
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department nursing experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Experience with pediatric and adult ED patient populations including trauma, cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and psychiatric emergencies
- Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and management of arterial and central lines
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, EKG/ECG interpretation, and dysrhythmia management
- Experience with emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation
- Skilled in triage and use of isolation precautions/PPE
- Ability to manage orthopedic trauma including splinting
- 2 supervisor references obtained within the past year required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and continual reassessment) for ED patients
- Serve as a patient advocate while coordinating care and promoting safety and clinical quality
- Manage a wide range of ED presentations including abdominal pain, asthma, burns, head injury, seizures, sickle cell crisis, and spinal cord injury
- Handle psychiatric emergencies such as acute psychosis, drug overdose, suicidal patients, and management of violent behavior
- Care for patients requiring BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, chest tube insertion, and ABG interpretation
- Support neuro-trauma and CVA patients as part of a Stroke Certified Facility
- Respond to shock/trauma cases including gunshot wounds and traumatic amputations
- Local candidates accepted at local rate
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius to qualify for travel rate
- Returning employees must have a 1-year separation before being eligible to return as a traveler
- Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, with only 1 holiday request approved per contract
- Holiday coverage required for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day
- First-time travelers are not specified as eligible for this position due to travel experience requirement
