Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position requiring floating and weekend coverage.

Details

  • Work in the Med/Surg Telemetry unit of a hospital setting
  • Care for patients with diagnoses including dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture
  • Target patient ratio of 1:5-6
  • Isolation area maintained for COVID patients
  • Multi-level care unit with stepdown patients managed by separate stepdown staff
  • Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 18:45-7:15
  • 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
  • 13-20 week contracts accepted
  • Floating required
  • Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract
  • Uses Pyxis for medication management, Epic for documentation, and SBAR for communication
  • May be required to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team coverage during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • BLS certification required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
  • Skilled in IV insulin protocols, heparin, and PCA administration
  • Experience with colostomy care, feeding tube management, and wound care/wound vac
  • Proficient in pre/post hemodialysis management and blood product administration
  • Skilled in central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and starting IVs
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula
  • Skilled in non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and oxygen administration via face mask or portable tank
  • Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Preferred skills include port access, tracheostomy management, ABG interpretation, and CVA and surgical drain care
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references OK for consideration)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including medication administration, wound care, and respiratory support for medical-surgical telemetry patients
  • Utilize Rapid Response Team as needed
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours, with hospital orientation occurring during the first week and daily class attendance required
  • Scrub color requirement is navy/white
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a lower pay rate
  • Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
  • Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel status and cannot hold both
  • RTO of up to 7 days may be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
  • No additional RTO requests allowed after signing the contract
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed before start and annually
