Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RN for a night shift position requiring 2+ years of med/surg experience and BLS/ACLS certification.
Details
- Work on a 30-bed Med-Surg Colorectal telemetry unit in an acute care hospital setting
- Care for patients with colorectal conditions such as colorectal cancer and ileus, as well as post-surgical recovery, osteomyelitis, sepsis, and pneumonia
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 on day shift and 1:6 on night shift
- LPNs are utilized on the 7 a.m. shift and a charge nurse is present each shift, typically taking an assignment
- PCTs support the unit at a ratio of 12-15 patients per PCT, assisting with vitals, bathing, glucose monitoring, phlebotomy, and ADLs
- Utilizes High Flow and BiPAP respiratory equipment for under 24 hours, requiring RN troubleshooting
- Uses GE tele monitors with virtual monitoring only; no on-site telemetry technicians, so RNs read their own EKG strips each shift
- RNs are responsible for titrating drips including Amiodarone, Heparin, insulin, and Cardizem
- Charts in EPIC
- Night shift schedule, 7p-7a, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
- Weekend work required every other weekend or less frequently
- Floating to other units is required
- On-call requirement exists but is used as a last resort for travelers
- Both self-scheduling and block scheduling are available
Requirements
- Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) required for the state of submission; pending licenses not accepted
- TN or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of medical/surgical nursing experience required
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required
- Current ACLS certification required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Must be able to titrate high-risk drips including Amiodarone, Heparin, insulin, and Cardizem
- Must be able to troubleshoot High Flow and BiPAP respiratory equipment
- Must be able to independently read and interpret EKG strips
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

- Unit-specific orientation lasts 3 shifts
- Dress code requires navy blue scrubs
- Holiday coverage is assigned on a rotating basis
