Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/LDRP position requiring both L&D and couplet care experience along with the ability to circulate for C-sections.

Details

  • LDRP unit with 8 LDRP rooms, 3 observation rooms, and 3 triage rooms (15 rooms/17 beds)
  • Low-risk LDRP unit that cares for pregnant patients, transferring or stabilizing higher-risk cases as needed
  • Facility performs fewer than 100 births per month with a single OB practice delivering on-site
  • Occasionally accepts off-service female patients such as hysterectomy cases when census allows
  • Target ratios are L&D 1:1-2 and couplet care 1:3 average, though ratios may fluctuate based on unit needs
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45-07:15
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts per contract
  • Occasional floating possible but not frequent
  • Call may be required during low census periods
  • Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR systems

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Required certifications: AWHONN Beginner/Intermediate, BLS, FHM, and NRP
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS and AWHONN Advanced
  • Must have both Labor & Delivery and Couplet Care/Mother-Baby experience
  • Must be able to circulate in the OR for C-section deliveries and recover patients in PACU
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Experience with fetal monitoring including external/internal monitoring and IUPC use
  • Experience administering medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and terbutaline
  • Skilled in antepartum care, postpartum care, and newborn care including NST, OCT, and metabolic screening
  • Experience with high-risk delivery assistance, forceps/vacuum extraction, and hemorrhage/shock management
  • Skilled in pain management including epidural and PCA use
  • Previous PERM/PRN/EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying and disclose employment history

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive care to laboring and postpartum patients, managing either labor patients or couplet care assignments
  • Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulate for C-sections, and recover post-surgical patients
  • Deliver newborn care including APGAR scoring, cord care, thermoregulation, and discharge teaching to parents
  • Support breastfeeding and lactation, wound assessment, and postpartum recovery for various delivery types
  • Provide antepartum triage and assessments including sterile speculum exams and reflex checks
  • Unit orientation consists of a hospital orientation week plus two 12-hour shifts, with daily class attendance required
  • Scrubs are provided (blue)
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this role
  • 13-week contracts accepted, with options for 36 hours per week
