Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Float RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 2+ years of experience and an AR or compact RN license.

Details

Float pool coverage between Med/Onc, two surgical units, and two medical units in an acute care hospital
128-bed Med/Surg unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
Total care model with no PCAs
Surgical patient population including colorectal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, general, and orthopedic cases
Medical patient population including diabetes, heart disease, COPD, kidney, and GI conditions
No telemetry monitoring on the unit, aside from occasional strip reading with remote tele monitoring support
Respiratory therapy equipment managed by RT staff; RNs only apply nasal cannula on the floor
Cerner EMR currently in use, transitioning to Epic in November 2026
Charge nurse present on every shift and takes a patient assignment
Nurse aides/PCTs available on the unit with varying ratios
12-hour day shifts, 7a-7p, with every other weekend required
No holiday or on-call/standby requirements
Floating required to any Med/Surg pod within the facility

Requirements

Active AR or Compact RN license required
BLS certification (AHA) required
Minimum 2 years of relevant, current medical/surgical experience required
Large hospital experience required
No first-time travelers considered for this position
Not required to titrate drips

Additional Information

Provide direct patient care across multiple Med/Surg units as part of a float pool team
3 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation provided
Navy scrubs required; scrubs not provided
Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year
Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
