Description

American Traveler is seeking a Labor & Delivery RN with a WA or compact license and at least 1 year of L&D experience for a Level III Trauma Center birth center.

Details

• Birth Center unit within a Level III Trauma Center hospital with 375 licensed beds
• Unit includes 9 LDR, 2 OB OR, 2 OB PACU, 11 Level II NICU, 4 bed Peds, 20 bed Mother/Baby, 18 bed START perinatal addiction unit, and 3 OB ED beds
• Level II Perinatal Center serving patients 32 weeks and above
• Patient population includes hypertension, magnesium administration, substance abuse medication management, low-risk patients needing intermittent monitoring, epidurals, and fetal monitoring
• Approximately 175-200 deliveries per month
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN and NANN guidelines: 1:1 for active labor and 1:2 for non-active laboring patients
• EMR: EPIC Stork and GE Centricity
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing via Pyxis
• 12-hour day/night shifts, 0700-1900 or 1900-0700, 36 hours per week
• Rotating weekends every other weekend
• No on-call requirement
• Floats between L&D and Mother/Baby only to areas of competency, excluding the START unit
• Schedule created in 3-week increments

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• Fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or Relias module) required
• Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience required
• Strong L&D skills including cervical exams, antepartum and labor care, amnio infusion, epidurals, fetal monitoring, IV insertion, and Pitocin administration
• Post-partum experience with mother/baby care beyond the initial 24-hour transition period
• Basic breastfeeding support knowledge required
• Experience with couplet care once mother and baby are stable
• Pyxis medication dispensing experience required

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care within a Level III Trauma Center birth center
• Unit is supported by 24/7 hospitalist and laborist OBGYN coverage, an OB group, and a midwife/family practice group
• No CNAs on the unit; phlebotomy services available and surgery techs present weekdays
• NICU team attends deliveries at 34 weeks gestation or less when needed
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 for high-risk deliveries or concerning fetal monitoring strips
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation plus two unit shifts, along with annual core competencies, a medication exam, and a unit competency exam completed prior to arrival
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor holiday
• Requested time off must be approved through the unit manager
• Scrubs provided and free parking available on-site
• Manager interview required prior to placement
