Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center offering night shifts, requiring 3 years of recent ICU experience with neuro or CV background.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a Level 1 Trauma Center ICU
  • Position covers Surgical ICU (Trauma Neuro Surgery) and Medical ICU (Medical Cardiac + Overflow) units
  • Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts
  • Nurse to patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:1
  • Cerner EMR used for charting
  • RNs required to titrate drips including Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetatol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin
  • RNs required to interpret their own telemetry strips using GE monitors
  • 24/7 in-house Hospitalist or Intensivist and RT coverage
  • RT equipment includes Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPap, and Airvo
  • Self-scheduling available with manager balancing for unit needs
  • Weekend requirement of 3 shifts per 4-week schedule (night shift weekends are Friday-Saturday, day shift weekends are Saturday-Sunday)
  • May have up to 1 holiday off during the assignment
  • No standing call or standby requirement, though low census may occur up to 3 times per contract
  • Float requirement to telemetry unit with 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed, with expectation to float between all 3 ICUs (SICU, Medical Cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU)

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required with no exceptions
  • Experience must include either neuro or CV specialty
  • Charge nurses do not take patients
  • UNA Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance of position, with a maximum of 2 attempts
  • Pass/fail Sim Lab required on Day 1 of orientation
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Care for Level 1 trauma patients including falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs, and trauma patients over age 15
  • Handle surgical cases including ex-lap, crani, and specialty neuro-surgery procedures
  • Manage diagnoses including CVA, status post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, and ARDS in SICU
  • Medical ICU handles sepsis, COVID, DKA, flu, and ARDS cases
  • CVICU handles on and off pump CABG, valves, post caths, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, Tandem heart, and esophagectomies
  • No nurse aides on unit; support staff used only for sitters and as Health Unit Secretary
  • Skills validation provided for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Unit-specific orientation is 1-2 days
  • First-time travelers welcome to apply with required 3 years of experience (including 2 years in ICU)
  • Level 1 trauma or neuro experience preferred but not required
  • Prior experience in a similarly sized ICU unit preferred
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
