Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring trauma, neuro-critical care, and ICP monitoring experience.
Details
- Acute care Level 2 Trauma ICU/Trauma ICU unit with 30 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1-2, with 90% of the time at 1:2
- 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend
- RNs required to titrate drips including vasopressors and sedation
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7, charge nurse does not take patient assignments
- 1 unit tech covers all 30 beds, primarily performing secretarial duties
- Intensivist coverage in house 24/7
- Respiratory therapist assigned to ICU 24/7, using Hamilton ventilators
- GE telemetry monitors used; unit secretary runs strips but RN must interpret them
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Self-scheduling available but subject to manager review; schedules made about 6 weeks in advance
- Travelers are first to be moved for scheduling needs
- Float requirements include PCU, CICU, telemetry, or medsurg units; ICU patients in CICU will not include open heart cases
- No call or standby requirements for travelers
Requirements
- Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required; PALS preferred (required after 6 months if assignment extends beyond that)
- NIHSS certification required
- 2-3 years of ICU experience required
- Trauma experience required
- Experience with ICP monitoring and ventriculostomies required; candidates without this must have experience with post-TPA patients
- Previous travel experience preferred
- Must be able to interpret telemetry strips
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Fast-paced unit requiring strong teamwork, communication, and willingness to ask for help when needed
- Telemetry, L&D, Emergency, and Critical Care RNs must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia test onsite on day one (Pass/Fail)
- RNs will also complete a Pass/Fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day one of orientation
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided, with additional time available if needed
- Navy scrub color required
- Hospital has a robust interventional radiology program
- Holiday RTO may be considered but cannot be guaranteed
- Facility is traveler-friendly and welcomes first-time travelers with strong prior experience at large, fast-paced facilities
- Candidates with 2 years or less experience and minimal travel experience will not be considered unless they have excellent experience at large, fast-paced facilities
