Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown Care Unit position requiring ICU/Intermediate experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 patient ratio and trach/vent skills.
Details
- Acute care Stepdown Care Unit with 20 beds (8 private, remainder semi-private)
- Nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1
- Cares for patients with COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions, as well as some neuro/surgical/cardiac cases
- Manages patients on Bipap, Cpap, face mask ventilators, trachs, ventilator-dependent trach patients, chest tubes, g-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
- RNs required to titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent Vasopressors
- Charge nurse is typically free from patient assignments unless staffing requires otherwise, with 24/7 house supervisor coverage
- 2 PCTs per shift, each taking up to 10 patients when unit is full
- All patients on Phillips bedside monitors with tele techs interpreting strips and RNs confirming
- 12-hour day shifts, 7am-7pm, with block scheduling available
- Every other weekend required (day shift works Sat/Sun)
- Every other holiday rotation required, including companion day of major holidays
- No call or standby requirements
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Travel RNs float first, potentially to ICU (if experienced), other Stepdown units, or Gen Med, taking assignments appropriate to that level of care
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS recommended
- Minimum 1 year of experience required
- ICU or Intermediate (Stepdown) experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 nurse to patient ratio required
- Progressive care or telemetry-only experience is not sufficient
- Trach and vent experience required
- Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care including drip titration and management of trach/vent patients
- Unit orientation includes 1 day of EPIC training, 1 day with unit educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN
- Any scrub color permitted
- Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- No radius rule restricting eligibility
