Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown Care Unit position requiring ICU/Intermediate care experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 patient ratio, trach and vent skills, and an active IL license.
Details
- Acute care Stepdown Care Unit with 20 beds (8 private, remainder semi-private)
- Nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1
- Cares for patients with COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia and other respiratory conditions, plus some neuro/surgical/cardiac patients
- Manages Bipap, Cpap, face mask ventilators, trachs, trached patients on ventilators, chest tubes, g-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
- RNs titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent Vasopressors
- Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage on every shift, with charge nurse taking a patient assignment only if staffing is not ideal
- 2 PCTs per shift, taking up to 10 patients each when unit is full
- All patients on Phillips bedside monitors with tele techs interpreting strips and RNs confirming
- 12-hour night shifts, 7pm-7am
- Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights)
- Every other holiday rotation, including companion day of major holidays
- No call or standby requirements
- Travel RNs float first, potentially to ICU (with sufficient ICU experience), other Stepdown units, or Gen Med, adjusting patient load per unit level of care
- EPIC EMR used
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required, or license application process must be initiated
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS certification recommended
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- ICU or Intermediate (Stepdown) experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 nurse to patient ratio required
- Progressive care or telemetry-only experience is not sufficient for this role
- Trach and vent experience required
- BSN not required
- Negative drug screen required for all panels due to Drug-Free Campus policy
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care including drip titration and management of trach/vent patients
- Unit orientation includes 1 day for EPIC training, 1 day with unit educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN
- Scrubs of any color are permitted
- Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, no radius rule for eligibility
- Local candidates are accepted
- COVID vaccination is not required
- Cancellation policy allows the equivalent of 12 hours off per 13 weeks with no penalty
