Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown Care Unit position requiring ICU/Intermediate care experience with trach and vent skills at a 3:1 ratio.
Details
- Acute care setting within a 20-bed Stepdown Care Unit with 8 private and 12 semi-private rooms
- Nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1
- Cares for patients with COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions, along with some neuro/surgical/cardiac patients
- Manages patients on Bipap, Cpap, face mask ventilators, trachs, and ventilated trach patients, along with chest tubes, g-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
- Requires titration of drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent Vasopressors
- Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor support available on each shift, though charge nurse may take patients if staffing is not ideal
- 2 PCTs per shift, each taking up to 10 patients when unit is full
- All patients on bedside Phillips monitors with tele techs interpreting strips for RN confirmation
- 12-hour day shifts, 7am-7pm, with block scheduling available
- Every other weekend required, with Sat/Sun rotation for day shift
- No call or standby requirements
- Uses EPIC EMR
- First priority for floating, potentially to ICU (with extensive ICU experience), other Stepdown units, or Gen Med, taking appropriate patient loads for that level of care
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required (or confirmation that application process has been initiated)
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS certification recommended
- Minimum 1 year of experience required
- ICU/Intermediate (Stepdown) experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 nurse to patient ratio required
- Progressive care or telemetry-only experience is not sufficient
- Trach and vent experience required due to frequent trach/vented patients on the unit
- Negative drug screen required for all panels (Drug-Free Campus)
Additional Information
- Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- Every other holiday rotation required, including working the companion day of major holidays
- Scrubs of any color permitted
- Unit orientation includes 1 day for EPIC training, 1 day with the unit educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN
- COVID vaccination is not required
