Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a PCU/Telemetry position requiring 2 years of recent specialty experience and strong ventilator skills at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital.
Details
- PCU/Progressive Care Unit at a tertiary care hospital
- Patient population includes pulmonary stepdown, intermediate care, ventilated/trach patients, COPD and high-acuity respiratory patients
- Uses endobronchial valves and ventilator management, including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and non-invasive airway management
- Standard patient ratio of 1:4, with rare flexing to 1:6
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
- 8 weekend shifts required within a 6-week schedule, combination of Fri/Sat/Sun
- Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- No on-call requirement
- Epic EMR used, experience preferred
Requirements
- Active RN license required (Missouri or compact)
- Both Kansas and Missouri license or compact license must be in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience, including a full year within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
- Strong ventilator experience required
- Skilled in cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experienced in IV therapy/phlebotomy including central line, PICC line, and port access/management
- Skilled in tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and interpretation of ABGs
- Experience with hemodialysis management and renal failure care
- Experience managing cardiac drips and heparin protocols
- Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
- 2 professional references required, one supervisor-level or above and one charge RN, both from the past year
- SSN required at time of consideration
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to telemetry and pulmonary stepdown patients, including ventilator and tracheostomy management
- Located at a 5-time Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
- Navy scrub color required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted
- Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all time-off requests finalized at time of consideration
- Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service and 18 months of tenure; former permanent BJC employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Travel partners are not accepted
