Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg Oncology RN with chemotherapy certification and 3+ years of inpatient oncology experience for a cancer specialty hospital assignment.
Details
- Medical Surgical Oncology unit within a cancer specialty hospital
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00-19:30)
- Weekend rotation and floating required
- Uses Pyxis medication system
- Uses EPIC for documentation
- Follows SBAR communication protocol
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required
- Chemotherapy certification required
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
- Inpatient oncology experience required
- Experience caring for patients with bladder, kidney, breast, colorectal, liver, lung, ovarian/uterine, pancreatic, and prostate cancers
- Experience administering chemotherapy via continuous infusion, IV push, and oral routes
- Skilled in body fluid handling post-chemotherapy and management/disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Experience monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
- Experience administering antibiotics, antiemetics, antitumor agents, corticosteroids, hormonal therapy, and Neupogen
- Post-surgical care experience required
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy and post-surgical treatment
- Caribbean blue scrubs required (not provided by facility)
- Preferred experience includes biotherapy, stem cell therapies, and care for patients with brain, leukemia/blood dyscrasias, lymphoma, melanoma, and multiple myeloma
- Preferred skills include IV therapy/infusions, management of ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
- Preferred experience in pain management, care coordination, chest tube care, colostomy/ileostomy management, foley catheter care, and wound care
- Preferred experience with isolation precautions, neutropenic precautions, telephone triage, and tracheostomy care
- Preferred experience with advanced directives, hospice care, patient/family education, and symptom management
