Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg Oncology RN with chemotherapy certification and 3+ years of inpatient oncology experience for a cancer specialty hospital assignment.

Details

• Medical Surgical Oncology unit within a cancer specialty hospital
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00-19:30)
• Weekend rotation and floating required
• Uses Pyxis medication system
• Uses EPIC for documentation
• Follows SBAR communication protocol

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required
• Chemotherapy certification required
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
• Inpatient oncology experience required
• Experience caring for patients with bladder, kidney, breast, colorectal, liver, lung, ovarian/uterine, pancreatic, and prostate cancers
• Experience administering chemotherapy via continuous infusion, IV push, and oral routes
• Skilled in body fluid handling post-chemotherapy and management/disposal of cytotoxic spills
• Experience monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
• Experience administering antibiotics, antiemetics, antitumor agents, corticosteroids, hormonal therapy, and Neupogen
• Post-surgical care experience required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy and post-surgical treatment
• Caribbean blue scrubs required (not provided by facility)
• Preferred experience includes biotherapy, stem cell therapies, and care for patients with brain, leukemia/blood dyscrasias, lymphoma, melanoma, and multiple myeloma
• Preferred skills include IV therapy/infusions, management of ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
• Preferred experience in pain management, care coordination, chest tube care, colostomy/ileostomy management, foley catheter care, and wound care
• Preferred experience with isolation precautions, neutropenic precautions, telephone triage, and tracheostomy care
• Preferred experience with advanced directives, hospice care, patient/family education, and symptom management
