Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced GI/Endoscopy RN with Level 1 or 2 trauma experience and a SD or compact RN license required for a hospital endoscopy department.

Details

  • Hospital endoscopy department with 4 endoscopy rooms, 20 Pre-Op bays, and 14 PACU bays
  • Performs upper and lower endoscopy including advanced procedures such as EUS, EBUS, and ERCP
  • EGD and colonoscopy procedures with pre and post recovery (Phase I and Phase II) care, including some ICU-level care
  • Patient ratios: Endo 1:1, Pre-Op 1:2, PACU Phase I 1:1-1:2 based on acuity, PACU Phase II 1:2-3
  • Anesthesia team provides sedation for all procedures
  • Charts using EPIC and utilizes ION robot (robotic-assisted bronchoscopy), Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
  • 10-hour variable shift schedule, 40 hours per week, with rotation through shifts (0630-1500, 0730-1600, 0830-1700, 0900-1800)
  • Weekend rotation required every 3rd weekend
  • On-call requirement of one overnight per week (7p-7a) plus every 3rd weekend, with a 15-minute response time
  • May float to Pre-Op, PACU, or Floor as needed in a helping-hands capacity, but not to Main OR as primary RN

Requirements

  • Active RN license (SD or compact) required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience in a Level 1 or 2 trauma center
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
  • Advanced endoscopy skills required, including EUS, EBUS, and ERCP procedures

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in endoscopy, pre-op, and PACU settings, supporting advanced GI procedures
  • Unit is staffed with a support team of 6 RNs/Endo Techs plus anesthesia support for 100% of sedation cases
  • 1-week facility and unit orientation provided
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 of 4 major holidays
  • Time off requires manager approval, and low census volunteering is available without pay
  • Scrubs are provided and free parking is available
  • First-time travelers are not accepted; approval from the facility is required for exceptions
  • Permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a traveler
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible, as local travelers are not permitted
  • Facility is known to be very traveler-friendly with high renewal rates
