Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a Surgical Acute unit requiring at least 1 year of experience and BLS certification.

Details

• Surgical Acute unit in an acute care hospital setting, 63 beds (49 private, 9 observation)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with potential increases to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights when needed
• Common diagnoses include post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• EPIC EMR used
• 12-hour night shifts (1930-0730)
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Rotating holiday coverage every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required, with travelers floating first to units with similar experience level
• PCTs support with 7-10 patients per PCT on days and 10-15 on nights, assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation
• Charge RNs pre-assigned each shift without taking a patient assignment, and House Supervisor coverage 24/7
• Telemetry patients monitored via Phillips monitors with centralized monitor techs; bedside RNs do not read strips
• No RNs required to titrate drips except Heparin
• No ventilator management required; RT manages nebulizers while RNs manage inhalers and CPAP placement

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
• Post-op patient care experience required
• Strong critical thinking skills and good bedside manner required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

• Provide post-surgical and medical overflow patient care including wound care, IV therapy, pain management, and management of drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• Team-oriented environment with dedicated Charge RNs and 24/7 House Supervisor support
• Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour shift focused on EPIC and professional orientation with unit educator
• Scrubs of any color permitted
• Local candidates accepted with adjusted pay rate for those within 50 miles of the facility
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role
