Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Neuro ICU RN with a minimum of 2 years dedicated Neuro ICU experience for a comprehensive stroke center, requiring an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Neuro ICU of a comprehensive stroke center
  • Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1, with potential flex up to 3:1 during high census
  • Average daily census of 11-12 patients
  • 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15, with 36 hours per week possible
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within or near the facility
  • Uses Pyxis and EPIC systems with SBAR communication
  • Unit orientation consists of 24 hours over 2 days or nights

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required (pending license/certs acceptable at submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of dedicated Neuro ICU experience required; general ICU experience alone not accepted
  • Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • Required EPIC charting system experience
  • Required skills: IV therapy, blood product administration, central line care/management, care of ventilated patients, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD management, ICP monitoring, lumbar drain management, post neurosurgery management, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury care, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and isolation precautions/PPE use
  • Preferred skill: arterial line management
  • Prior travel nurse experience required; first-time travelers not accepted for this unit
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to a high-acuity neuro population including stroke, aneurysm, and post-neurosurgical patients
  • Utilize specialized equipment such as EVD, lumbar drains, Camino ICP monitors, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
  • Scrub color requirement: navy blue and white
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays during the assignment
  • RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved if not on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment; additional RTO requests after signing are not permitted
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower pay rate
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying and disclose prior employment details
  • Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel status, not both
