Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 48-hour/week night shift contract requiring prior travel experience and a SD or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 39-bed mixed ICU unit (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) divided into pods
  • Care for complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma populations
  • Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, and multiple system trauma
  • RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3 depending on acuity
  • 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
  • Floating to any adult floor including MedSurg/Tele (1:4 ratio) possible if overstaffed, but uncommon
  • No on-call requirements
  • Every other weekend rotation attempted but not guaranteed
  • Epic EMR required
  • Alaris pumps in use, transitioning to Baxter pumps in October
  • Omnicell system used for medication dispensing
  • 24/7 respiratory therapy support and dedicated charge nurses on each ICU pod
  • CNA and mobility float aide support available per unit

Requirements

  • Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • TNCC certification required or must be willing to obtain prior to arrival
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel assignments
  • At least one prior travel assignment required
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, and ventilator management required
  • Telemetry experience required
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment, and teamwork skills required
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity ICU environment
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • Cardiac ICU experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR post-op care

Additional Information

  • Provide direct critical care nursing across a mixed ICU population
  • May be asked to precept nursing students
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available on site
  • No RTO permitted during hospital-designated holidays
  • No RTO permitted during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
  • Time off requests up to 7 days may be approved but must extend the contract to a full 13 weeks
  • Travelers must live 100 miles away from any facility within the health system
  • Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a travel employee
  • Facility is known for renewing travel contracts frequently
