Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position in an acute care setting requiring WI or compact RN licensure and prior intermediate care/telemetry experience.
Details
- Acute care Level II trauma facility on a 29-bed Med/Surg/Tele unit specializing in ENT and general medical patients
- Common diagnoses include abdominal surgeries, ENT surgeries, complex wounds, and general medical conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 (days) and 1:6 (nights), with nurse aide ratios of 1:8 (days) and 1:14 (nights)
- Charge nurse takes a smaller assignment and agency staff are not required to work in charge role
- Telemetry monitor techs monitor rhythms and document in the EHR; RNs are not required to read their own strips
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, and occasionally insulin, diltiazem, amiodarone, and nitro
- Respiratory equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP, and Vapotherm; occasional tracheostomy care but no ventilators
- Uses Cerner EMR, transitioning to Epic
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts, with an every other weekend and every other holiday requirement
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed but is prioritized for night shifts when possible
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required on a rotation basis to other med/surg units when overstaffed
- Scrubs of any color permitted
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience required
- Intermediate care background required
- Experience with IVs, drains, ostomies, wound vacs, NG tubes, and foley catheters required
- Experience with electronic health records required
Additional Information
- Unit-specific orientation includes 12 hours of computer training and 12 hours of shadowing
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and receive a reduced bill rate
- Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
- Former permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission and require facility approval to return
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
